REACHReady has two online tools to help our subscribers navigate the complexities of the REACH legislation.

REACHScope
Designed to help you to identify quickly and easily whether your particular substances fall within the scope of REACH.

REACHReckoner
A business management tool to help you to weigh up the business scenarios that will arise from REACH.

REACHScope

The first question many companies will need to answer when considering the likely impact of REACH on their business is whether their particular substances, either those bought in, those they manufacture or those they sell, are covered by the REACH legislation. And this is not always as simple a question as one might imagine. While REACH applies to all substances manufactured or imported into the European Union in the amount of one tonne or more per annum there are several product types are excluded from REACH, as they are already covered by existing health and environmental legislation - but which product types are these?

REACH includes many of the chemicals used in the manufacture of exempted products, and even some of the exempted ingredients. Similarly, REACH exempts a whole range of natural based materials, such as ores, some plant extracts and some gases, but these exemptions are by no means predictable.............. and what may be even more confusing to anyone new to REACH is that the text of the legislation does not bring this information together in one place. Just to confuse, it is scattered through several articles and annexes to the regulation.

This is where our REACHScope tool comes in to help you through this maze. REACHScope is designed to help you to identify quickly and easily whether your particular substances fall within the scope of REACH, and it does this by leading you through a series of well-designed questions which ask for inputs such as substance name, company annual tonnage, product type, or use. Help is available at every stage to define any terms that may be unfamiliar.

The system is easy to use, and definitive in relation to current knowledge, and will enable companies to gain a headstart on what commitment of resources and money will need to be allocated to meeting the demands of REACH.

All REACHReady subscribers have free access to REACHScope, saving time, trouble and money. . If you’d like a more detailed look at REACHScope then login to the website. If you’re not already a subscriber sign-up as a (FREE) silver member .

REACHReckoner

REACH represents a major change in how companies manufacturing or using chemicals conduct their business. Much of the success of its implementation depends on the creation of new networks for generating and communicating chemical use data between suppliers and customers.

REACH serves as an impetus for producers to screen their production portfolio, and consolidate the number of substances they make. A high number of substances currently produced may be withdrawn from the EU market, simply due to the cost of complying with REACH. Any newly identified chemical hazards may also result in a rationalisation of chemicals available for particular high-risk applications. In turn this presents new market opportunities for "safer" alternatives, which serve comparable performance functions. Important and far-reaching business decisions may need to be made.

And this is where REACHReckoner comes in. This business management tool will help you to weigh up the business scenarios that will arise from REACH.  REACHReckoner does this by asking you a simple set of multiple choice questions to give you an indication of the costs and the amount of work you will have to do to comply.
